Miguel Vicente Andrés Bou, PhD

Was born in Valencia (Spain) in 1957. Nowadays, he is Professor at the Department of Applied Physics of the University of Valencia, Spain, and member of the Institute of Materials Science. He received the B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from the University of Valencia, in 1979 and 1985, respectively. Since 1983, he has successively served as Assistant Professor, Lecturer, and Professor in the Department of Applied Physics of the University of Valencia. After a postdoctoral stay (1984-1987) at the Department of Physics of the University of Surrey, U.K., he founded the Laboratory of Fiber Optics at the University of Valencia.

His current research interests include: in-fiber acousto-optics and optomechanics, photonic crystal fibers, fiber-based light sources and lasers, fiber sensors, optical microcavities and waveguide theory.

His research activity includes an increasing number of collaborations with Latin American universities and research institutes of Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Peru and Costa Rica. Miguel V. Andrés is Senior Member of IEEE and member of Optica and EOS.

Katarina Svanberg phD

Is an M.D. and a Ph.D. and has been working as a clinical doctor as well as an associated professor in Oncology at Lund University, Sweden and as a distinguished professor at South China Normal University. During a period of more than ten years she was in the board of the International Society of Optics and Photonics (SPIE) and was in the presidential chain for four years as well as the president of the society. She received the US National Institute of Health (NIH) award for translational efforts to take optical techniques from the lab bench to the patients. She was also the recipient of the SPIE Gold medal. Her main research interests are within the field of laser applications in medicine.

Sune Svanberg, PhD.

Obtained his PhD from University of Gothenburg in 1972, and is since 1980 professor of physics at Lund University, Lund, Sweden. During 30 years, he was head of the Atomic Physics Division, and during 20 years director of the Lund Laser Centre. From 2011 to 2021 he was also a distinguished professor at South China Normal University, Guangzhou on a part-time appointment. He holds 9 honorary doctor/professor appointments, is a member of 6 scientific academies, a fellow of 5 learned societies, and received numerous national and international awards, including 5 gold medals. He served on many boards and committees, including a 10-year membership of the Nobel Committee for Physics of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Based on a long career in basic atomic spectroscopy and high-power laser/matter interactions, his current research interests focus on laser spectroscopic applications to the environmental, ecological and biomedical fields.
